New owners Dr David Childers & Dr Mike Thompson are very experienced vets and their new associate Dr Camp is an experienced equine Vet. Great Vets!
When, at last, we were taken to an exam room, we urged Dr. Callicut to give her another sedative. He kept saying it wouldn't be necessary. My guess is he didn't want to wait another hour for a sedative to kick in. As result, my parents and I had to stand by helpless as our beloved pet left this world struggling frantically and howling at the top of her voice.
I went in on a Friday afternoon after calling and being told they would fit me in but I might have to wait. I had a kitten no older than five or six weeks having seizures. Since the young veterinarian on shift didn't see the seizures he didn't even want to discuss what might be going on. I explained that I was scared this little kitten would die if I took it back home and asked if a professional could watch her and see what was going on with her. She had some yellow discharge coming from her eyes so she was treated for a respiratory infection and sent home with me. When I brought up the seizures again I was told it was probably because she wasn't eating well. Disappointed but leaving it to the professionals I paid my bill that included medicine for a respiratory infection, a steroid shot, and office visit totaling almost 80.00. I went home with my kitty only to have another three seizures, the last one that killed her within one hour of arriving back home. I was rushed in and out of this clinic, I believe to prevent my kitty from having a seizure in their office. My husband and I had Shadow's funeral on Saturday afternoon, all the while my five year old daughter wanted to know why it "had to die, why." This is the first animal my children have ever seen die, watching a five week old kitten have a seizure is traumatic. I will never trust this New Albany Small animal clinic to care for any family pets, you too should really be careful who you allow to care for you family pets. I would have given zero stars but I would not be able to write this review.
We fed her the tranquilizer an hour before our appointment time (as instructed) and arrived to the clinic 15 minutes before our appointment time. For some reason we were made to wait for over an hour, and by that time, the tranquilizer had worn off. We kept holding her and stroking her, but was becoming more and more anxious.
We now take our two cats to another clinic, 40 miles away in the next county, for routine care. The callousness Dr. Callicut showed that day was such that we will never take any animal to his clinic again for any reason.
The staff is very friendly and helpful :) and the veterinarian treated my dog like she was my child. He showed sincere concern and was so gentle and patient with her. I would recommend this clinic to anyone.
Six months ago, my parents and I brought a cat (who'd been part of our family for 17 years) to Dr. Callicut for a pre-arranged appointment to have her euthanized. It was hard enough knowing that we'd have to say goodbye to a beloved member of the family. But we believed that we were doing the right thing. By that time she was having far more bad days than good.
Even now, we are still deeply affected by what happened. It saddens me to see how guilty my parents still feel, after they'd gone to such great pains to make our cat's transition as painless and gentle as possible. Their only mistake was trusting Dr. Callicut.
